Installation starts with the paint. If the clear coat is peeling or cloudy, if there are chips at the edges, or if you see bubbles, have that repaired. The door should also close flush and latch firmly.
With sound paint, the job is short. Clean the door with soapy water, rinse, and dry it, then wipe the face with degreaser until a fresh cloth comes away clean. Hold the trim against the closed door with its liner on, and shift it until the visible paint around it forms an even border. If someone can step back and check, so much the better. Mark the position with a few small pieces of painter's tape. Then peel the liner, bring the trim to your marks, and set it down cleanly without sliding. The polished 304 finish is bright and mirror-like, and 26 gauge sheet keeps the trim thin on the door.
Choose a mild, dry day to install, and give the tape overnight to set before rain. Afterward, clean it with mild soap and a soft cloth, and wipe away fuel drips.
