Chevrolet Malibu 2016-2025 Sedan Stainless Gas Door Trim (GC56105)
Ten model years of the Chevrolet Malibu 4-door sedan, 2016 through 2025, are covered by GC56105. It's a single piece of 304 stainless steel at 26 gauge, polished, made in the USA, and it mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape. One row on the Fitment tab, one body style.
It is not a replacement cap and not a replacement part. You MUST have the existing gas door to install this piece. The trim mounts on the Malibu's own fuel door rather than replacing it.
If you're thinking about rocker trim too, note that the two described kits work differently. TH56106 is a two-piece kit that sits on the rocker and installs below the door, 1.25 inches wide. TH56105 is an eight-piece lower kit that spans from the bottom of the door up to the specified width, with a tapered width of 1.5 to 2.0 inches, so it narrows along its length. GC56105 installs directly over the existing surface; no drilling is involved. QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle. Paint is the foundation of that bond, so take a careful look at the door first. Peeling, faded or cloudy clear coat, chipped edges, and bubbles should be repaired before installing, and the door ought to close flush with the body around it.
Start the install by cleaning: soap and water, a rinse, a thorough dry, then degreaser on a clean cloth. Next, place the trim on the closed door without peeling the liner and adjust it until the paint visible around it is even all the way round. Mark that position with painter's tape. Peel the liner, return the trim to the marks, and press it firmly over the entire face, then repeat the pressure after a minute. Finally, open the door slowly and confirm it clears. The polished 304 finish is bright and reflective, and the 26 gauge sheet keeps the profile low. Install on a mild, dry day, keep it dry overnight, and afterward clean it with mild soap and a soft cloth, wiping off fuel drips.
