No drilling is involved. The trim installs directly over the existing surface, and QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle. Because the tape is bonding to paint, look closely at the fuel door before you start. Chips at the edge, flaking or chalky clear coat and small bubbles should be repaired first, and the door should close flush with the body around it.
Here's the process, start to finish. Wash the door with soapy water, rinse it and dry it completely, then wipe it down with a degreaser so the tape meets clean paint. With the liner still on, set the trim on the closed door and slide it until the paint showing around it is even on every side. Mark the spot with a few pieces of painter's tape. Peel the liner, line the trim up with your marks and press hard across its entire face, then repeat after a minute. Open the door slowly to check that nothing catches. Polished 304 stainless has a bright, reflective look, and the 26 gauge sheet keeps the overlay thin. Plan the install for a dry, mild day and give the tape a night to set before washing. Clean it with mild soap and a soft cloth afterward, and wipe away fuel drips after filling.
