Construction
For the 1995-1997 Land Cruiser, ten 6.5" strips of USA-made polished 26 gauge 304 stainless go on under the molding with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape. QAA says that tape will hold for a lifetime without harming the Toyota.
Starting from the molding
Every piece's top edge meets the molding's lower edge, so the molding has to be firmly attached and straight along all four doors. Repair lifting or cracked sections first, or the trim line will follow the fault.
Cleaning
- Hose off loose grit from the lower body.
- Wash the Land Cruiser's lower body in soapy water and rinse.
- Strip wax across the 6.5" band with a wax-and-grease remover.
- Touch in any chips or rust, then let them cure.
- Alcohol-wipe the area as each piece is about to go on.
Dry fit
Hold each piece up with painter's tape, top edge snug under the molding. Open all four doors and look along the side from both ends to check the lower edge runs straight.
Bonding
A 6.5" piece needs pressure across its full height. Peel a few inches of liner at a time and press from the top edge down, then go over the whole piece again.
Following the photos
Keep the gaps the same between every Land Cruiser piece.
Weather
Shade, mild weather and no rain; the Land Cruiser stays unwashed for a day.
If a door has been replaced
Measure that door separately and tell us which one it is, so we can check it.
Tools
Tape measure, painter's tape, masking tape, microfiber cloths, wax-and-grease remover and isopropyl alcohol. Lay the pieces on a soft towel while you sort them to keep the polished faces unmarked, and keep the box until every piece is on.
Fit a single door first and judge the line from a few paces away.
If the line looks uneven
Stop before peeling any liner and compare the pieces with the photos again. A call to us at that stage is quicker than fixing a bonded piece.
