Preparing the sills
A small step makes it easier to see the sill tops properly while you clean. Close every window first. Using a soft cloth and a bucket of mild shampoo solution, clean each sill, then wipe it with a cloth rinsed in clean water and dry it with a towel. Look closely at each one under a work light. Wax build-up, polish residue and leftover adhesive all keep the tape from bonding well, so take adhesive off with a plastic scraper and clean the sill with wax-and-grease remover. Fitting the four pieces

- Hold the first piece on its sill with painter's tape, liner still on, and check how its ends sit.
- Peel back a little liner at one end and press that section down.
- Pull the rest of the liner out slowly while pressing along the piece behind it.
- Fit the other three the same way, then go round once more pressing each from end to end.
Sills and pillars together
