Stand back and look, then mark the position on the surrounding body with a small piece of painter's tape. That reference keeps you from guessing once the adhesive is exposed.
Pressing it home
Peel the liner, line up with your mark, and press firmly across the whole piece, center first, then out to the edges. Wait a minute and do it again. Open the fuel door slowly to confirm the trim clears. The Installation tab covers the same process.
Temperature and timing
Tape bonds best in mild weather. Avoid cold paint and strong direct sun, and keep the area dry overnight. A garage is ideal.
About the steel
304 is a widely used stainless grade, and polishing gives it a bright, reflective surface. Gauge is a thickness number; at 26 gauge the sheet is thin, which keeps the overlay low on a door that has to open and close cleanly.
Looking after it
