Hold the trim against the closed door without removing the liner, shifting it until the narrow frame of paint around it looks equal on all four sides. Stick a couple of bits of painter's tape on the body to mark that spot. Now peel the liner, line up with your marks, and press the trim down firmly everywhere, paying attention to the edges. Pick a dry, mild day for the work and keep the Explorer out of the rain overnight while the tape sets. From then on, gentle soap, a soft cloth, and a quick wipe of any fuel that drips at the pump are all it needs.
