Reading the two notes
One note sets the height: "Spans from the bottom of the molding DOWN to the specified width." The steel hangs three inches below the molding. Keeping the line straight
Since the top edge rides the bottom of the molding, the molding is your guide. Where a gap between panels breaks it, sight down the side of the car before pressing the next piece, so the line carries straight across.

The ten full-length LeSabre strips are USA-made polished 26 gauge 304 stainless on 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape; QAA says it will hold for a lifetime without harming the Buick.
Preparation
Wash below the molding along the whole side, including behind the wheel wells and ahead of the rear bumper, where road grime builds up. Dry well, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol.
Near the wheel wells
The end pieces sit close to the wheel openings. Dry-fit those with special care and keep the tape clear of any edge where it would hang in the air.
Afterward
Swing each door and check the piece edges at the gaps. Wait a day before washing; then mild soap only.
