Prep work
Vacuum the sills, then wash, rinse and degrease. Make sure any dressing is fully removed and the paint underneath is sound. Let it dry before going further.
Install
With the door open, hold a plate in place with the liner still on, center it, and mark each end with painter's tape. Peel, line up with the marks, and press firmly the full length. Press again after a minute. Repeat for the second plate and compare. The Installation tab has full prep steps.
Why sill plates
Whenever a door opens, the sill is right at your feet and in plain view. A polished plate makes the opening look finished, and because it lies flat on the threshold, the door closes just as it did before. It's a small change you notice every time you get in.
