The four covers are cosmetic. Each one rests over a post by the side glass, and the LaCrosse's doors, windows and weatherstrip work as usual. The 304 alloy gives the corrosion resistance; nothing is plated.
Every cover goes on with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape that bonds to the post's existing paint or trim. You won't drill anything, and no trim has to be removed. The Installation tab tells you the temperature range and cure time.
A secure bond starts with the surface. Remove wax and polish, and repair any chalky, crazed or lifting paint. Wash the posts with car soap, rinse, let them dry, then wipe each with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloths, refolding until a fresh section comes up clean. Watch for dents as you work; polished stainless doesn't hide them.
The kit is modest: a bucket of car-soap water, rubbing alcohol, a handful of lint-free cloths, painter's tape and a pencil. A friend standing back from the Buick can tell you when a cover is square.
Work in shade on a calm, dry day. Lay out the four by the gallery and call us if one is bent or missing. With the liner on, offer a cover to the post its photo shows, shift it until the border is even and outline it with painter's tape. Remove the liner, set the cover in the outline and press firmly along its length and both edges. Step back and compare before the next one.
Now and then a cover refuses to close up at one end, or rocks slightly over a post. When the tape has fully cured, keep the four bright with a car-soap wash and a soft drying towel.
