Prepare the posts thoroughly, because the tape grips only what it touches. Wash each in car-soap water, rinse and dry. Take off wax and polish. Where the paint is chalking, crazing or lifting, repair it before going further. Finish with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloth, refolding until the cloth comes away spotless, and feel each post for dents. Keep low-tack painter's tape and a pencil ready.
Fit in the shade on a still, dry day, and allow plenty of time for ten. Check them against the photos and tell us at once about any damage. Tape a number at each post. For each cover, keep the liner on, set it in position, adjust until the gap round it is even and box it in with tape; then remove the liner, place the cover within the box and press firmly across its face and down both edges. Look each over from a step back before going on.
