Eight posts make the prep the longest part of the job. Wash each with soapy water, rinse and dry it. Clear any wax or polish film, and where paint has turned chalky or started to craze or peel, repair it first, since that coat is what the tape bonds to. Degrease with rubbing alcohol, using fresh lint-free cloth until nothing comes off, and feel along for dents. Have low-tack painter's tape and a pencil ready.
Fit on a dry, windless day in the shade. Go through the eight against their photos and tell us about any damage before you begin. Dry-fit each with its liner on, nudge it until the border is even, and mask round it with tape, numbering each mask. Then, working singly, peel the liner, lower the cover into its mask and smooth it down firmly end to end and along both edges. Take the masks off when all eight are on, then step back and check every border.
