Product Description
Ford Explorer, Sport Trac, Mountaineer & Aviator Pillar Post Trim, Four Covers, Keyless Pad Version (PP42640)
PP42640 is a four-cover polished stainless pillar set whose one note reads "Includes keyless entry touch pad." It costs $84.49, and the covers are 26 gauge 304 stainless, made in the USA. The title and the record list four vehicles, each tagged 4-door, SUV, Truck: Ford Explorer 2002-2010, Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2007-2010, Mercury Mountaineer 2002-2010 and Lincoln Aviator 2003-2005.
The keyless note. The record doesn't explain this note, so we won't describe what the cover looks like around the touch pad. What we can say is that the linked PP42641 is also four covers for the same rows but carries the opposite note, "Does not include keyless entry touch pad." If your posts have a keyless keypad, or you're not sure, compare the two galleries closely and call us before ordering.
Six-cover options. Two six-cover sets are linked as well: PP42642, noted as including the keyless entry touch pad, and PP42643, noted as not including it. So there are four choices in all, two counts and two keypad versions.
Your year. The rows don't share one span. The Explorer and Mountaineer cover 2002-2010, the Sport Trac 2007-2010 and the Aviator 2003-2005. Match your records against the row for your own make and model.
Help. Quality Automotive Trims is on 877-752-3811. Quote PP42640, your model and year, and tell us what you see on the post where a keypad would be.
What they are. Appearance trim for the posts by the side glass. Doors, windows and seals carry on as normal. The 304 alloy gives the corrosion resistance; nothing is plated.
Mounting. Each cover sticks on with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape, going straight over the paint or trim on your Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac or Aviator post. Nobody drills anything, and no panel has to come off. The working temperature range and the cure time are both set out on the Installation tab.
Prep. Remove wax and polish, and repair chalky, crazed or lifting paint, since the tape holds to it. Wash with car soap, rinse, dry fully, then wipe the posts with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloths until a fresh fold stays clean. Look for dents too.
On the bench. Lay out car soap with a bucket, a bottle of rubbing alcohol, a pile of lint-free cloths, painter's tape and a pencil before you start. A second person standing back from the Ford, Mercury or Lincoln can tell you whether each cover sits square on its post.
Fitting. Shade and a calm, dry day. Check the four against the gallery and contact us about any damage or shortage. Liner on, hold a cover to the post its photo shows, centre it and outline it in painter's tape. Peel, place it in the outline, and press firmly along its length and both edges. Compare with the photo before the next.
A cover that won't seat. If one rocks, bridges or lifts at a corner stop there and leave its liner attached. Call us on 877-752-3811. Once cured, the four are cleaned with car soap and water and dried with a soft towel.

Installation tips: Pillar Post Trim
- Unpack all 4 pieces and match each one to its position on the vehicle, using the product photos, before fitting any of them.
- Each piece mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape, so clean and dry the mounting surface first; the tape needs paint or trim free of dirt and wax.
- Align the piece and press it firmly into place directly over the existing surface, working along its full length so the tape bonds evenly.
- Fit one piece at a time and compare each with the product photos and the pieces already in place.
These are general tips. Follow any instructions packed with your kit if they differ.
