The tape grips whatever finish the posts have now, so look at each one before starting. A chalky surface, fine cracks, a lifting edge or wax will each weaken the bond; sort them out first. Then wash with car soap, dry thoroughly and wipe with rubbing alcohol on a lint-free cloth.
Compare the four covers with the photos when they arrive and call if one is damaged or missing. Fit them one at a time: hold each in place with the backing on, outline it with painter's tape, peel, and press it firmly into the outline along its length and both edges. Check the pair from a few steps back. A step stool helps if the upper edges are hard to see from the ground.
