Fine line, careful work
Narrow strips show every wobble, so most of the effort goes into layout. Hold the strip up with the liner on and compare it to the photos. Measure from each end to the edges of the gate and get the numbers equal, then run painter's tape along the top edge as a guide. Look from directly behind, not from an angle.
Clean surface, strong bond
Seven-eighths of an inch of tape is not much area, so give it clean paint to grip. Wash and dry the gate, then go over the strip's path with a residue-free cleaner. Keep switching to a fresh cloth until one stays white.
Material notes
The strip is 26-gauge 304 stainless, polished to a mirror. Since the shine is in the steel rather than in a plating, a light scuff simply shows more steel.
About the tape
The 0.875" XT4 accent goes on over the existing surface using 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape, which QAA says will hold for a lifetime without harming the Cadillac.
Pressing on
Pick a dry, temperate day. Peel the liner, line the strip up on the guide, and press from the center outward with firm pressure along its length. The Installation tab has the steps.
Living with it
Hold off on washing for a few days. After that, a soft cloth and mild soap keep it bright; don't use rubbing compound.
What it does
It puts a polished line on the liftgate. It isn't a replacement for any factory part, and the gate works as before.
Ordering tip
If you want the full rear look, order the bezel and lower bumper accent at the same time and install them in one session. Doing the gate strip first gives you a fixed line to space the other two against.
