A wipe with wax-and-grease remover and a second with isopropyl alcohol should be the last thing to touch each strip before its piece.
Fitting, corner by corner

Offer up the first piece without peeling anything, tape its two ends with painter's tape, and trace the gasket with your eye from end to end: it should sit snug against the opening. Start the bond at one end, an inch of liner at a time, following the curve with steady thumb pressure. Before the second piece, look at the first against the photos.
