Product Description
Camaro and Firebird 1982-1992 Polished Stainless Gas Door Trim (GC17100)
GC17100 puts a polished face on the fuel door of two older cars. It's listed for two vehicles over the same eleven model years: the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird, 1982 through 1992, in both 2-door liftback and convertible form. It's one piece of polished 304 stainless steel, 26 gauge, made in the USA. The Camaro overlay mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape.
Two cars, one part
The fitment rows are identical for both models:
- Chevrolet Camaro, 1982-1992, 2-door, liftback and convertible.
- Pontiac Firebird, 1982-1992, 2-door, liftback and convertible.
The Fitment tab shows both rows. No other matching trim is cross-listed on this sheet, so this piece stands on its own.
The warning, as the catalog states it
This is not a replacement cap and not a replacement part. You MUST have the existing gas door to install this piece. On a car this age, that's worth checking before you order: the door needs to be present, intact, and closing properly.
Paint condition on an older car
The tape bonds directly to the paint on the fuel door's face. On a car that's decades old, check the condition of that paint first. Look closely before you start. If the clear coat is lifting, the surface is chalky, or there's bubbling at the edges, address it first. The trim can only hold as well as the layer beneath it. A sound, clean, wax-free surface is what you want.
Mounting
The piece installs directly over the existing surface. Nothing is drilled, which matters if you care about keeping an older car's body unmodified. QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle.
Fitting it
Wash the door face, rinse, and wipe with degreaser to remove any old wax or polish residue. Let it dry completely. Close the door and hold the trim against it with the liner on. Move it until the border is even on all sides, then mark the spot on the body with a small piece of painter's tape. Peel the liner, line up, and press firmly over the whole face. Give it a second firm press after a minute. Open and close the door slowly to make sure it clears. The Installation tab has full steps.
Getting it centered
The border between the trim and the door edge is what the eye picks up. After the dry fit, step back and look at it straight on, then from toward the rear of the car. Adjust until the margins look equal. Having someone hold the piece while you look is the easiest way to judge it.
Weather
A dry day with mild temperatures gives the best start. Keep it dry overnight. If the car lives in a garage, that's the easiest place to do it.
Care
Clean it with mild soap on a soft cloth, wiping off any fuel drips after a fill.
Before you order
Confirm it's a Camaro or Firebird from 1982 to 1992, liftback or convertible, with the original gas door in working condition.

Installation tips: Gas Door Cover Trim
- Confirm your vehicle still has its original gas door. This trim mounts over it and does not replace it.
- Unpack the piece and hold it in position to confirm the fit before mounting it.
- Each piece mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape, so clean and dry the mounting surface first; the tape needs paint or trim free of dirt and wax.
- Align the piece and press it firmly into place directly over the existing surface, working along its full length so the tape bonds evenly.
- Step back and check alignment before pressing along the full length of the piece.
These are general tips. Follow any instructions packed with your kit if they differ.
