Check the paint
The tape bonds to the paint on the door face. On an Amanti from these years, look for chips, fading, or peeling clear coat and repair those first. Through the cut-out lettering, the paint underneath will also be visible, so its condition matters for looks as well as adhesion.
Installation
Wash the fuel door face, rinse, and degrease. Let it dry. With the door closed and the liner on, place the trim, keeping the lettering level and the border even. Mark the spot with painter's tape on the body. Peel the liner, line up, and press firmly over the whole face, including around the cut-out letters. Press again after a minute. Lining up lettering
A plain overlay only needs an even border. With cut-out letters, a slight tilt is easier to spot. Have a helper hold the trim while you step back and compare the lettering against a horizontal line on the body nearby. Adjust in small moves, then mark the spot.
Conditions and care
Dry, mild weather; keep it dry overnight. Wash with mild soap and a soft cloth, and wipe off fuel drips.
