Product Description
Dodge Nitro 2007-2011 and Jeep Commander 2006-2010 Stainless Gas Door Trim (GC47940)
Here's a fuel door trim listed for two SUVs from two brands. In the Fitment tab, as in the title, you'll find the 2007-2011 Dodge Nitro and a Jeep Commander for 2006 to 2010. Both are listed as 4-door SUVs, and each row spans five model years, offset by one year.
Notice the ranges are offset by a year: the Commander row starts in 2006 and ends in 2010, while the Nitro row runs 2007 through 2011. A Nitro from 2006 or a Commander from 2011 isn't on either row, so confirm the model year for your specific vehicle before you buy.
GC47940 is a single piece of 304 stainless steel, 26 gauge, with a polished face. It's made in the USA, and it mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape.
It is not a replacement cap and not a replacement part. You MUST have the existing gas door to install this piece, because the trim mounts on top of that door rather than replacing it. If your fuel door is cracked, bent or missing, replace it before fitting trim.
This sheet doesn't cross-list any other Nitro or Commander parts. That's a gap in the listing, not proof nothing else exists, so call if you'd like more stainless for the vehicle.
Mounting couldn't be much simpler. GC47940 installs directly over the existing surface, and there's no drilling. QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle. Tape is only as good as the paint beneath it, however, so take time to inspect the door. Check in good light for oxidized or flaking clear coat, chips along the perimeter, and bubbles. Anything doubtful should be repaired first. The door should also close fully and sit flush.
Once the paint checks out, clean the door's face with soap and water, rinse, and dry it. Follow with a degreaser, wiping until the cloth stays clean. Now the dry run: hold the trim against the closed door with the liner still covering the tape and slide it around until the paint visible around the edge is even everywhere. A friend standing back a few steps can tell you when it's centered. Mark the spot with a couple of small pieces of painter's tape on the body. Peel away the liner, set the trim against your marks in one steady motion, and press firmly over every part. Wait a minute and do it again. Finally, open the door slowly and make sure it swings freely. The Installation tab spells out each step.
The finish is polished 304 stainless, bright and reflective, and the 26 gauge sheet lets the trim sit nearly flush with the door.
Install on a mild, dry day and give the tape overnight before it gets wet. After that, clean it with mild soap and a soft cloth, and wipe away any fuel that splashes on it.

Installation tips: Gas Door Cover Trim
- Confirm your vehicle still has its original gas door. This trim mounts over it and does not replace it.
- Unpack the piece and hold it in position to confirm the fit before mounting it.
- Each piece mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape, so clean and dry the mounting surface first; the tape needs paint or trim free of dirt and wax.
- Align the piece and press it firmly into place directly over the existing surface, working along its full length so the tape bonds evenly.
- Step back and check alignment before pressing along the full length of the piece.
These are general tips. Follow any instructions packed with your kit if they differ.
