How much paint stays visible
That depends on your car. Measure from the underside of the molding to the bottom of each door. Subtract 7". The result is roughly how much painted band will remain under the steel. If the result is near zero, the steel will cover almost the whole lower door; if it's a few inches, you'll see a clear two-tone line. Setting the line
Use painter's tape 7" below the molding as a guide on every door. The steel's lower edge follows that line; the top edge follows the molding. Check that the molding is secure and straight first, and fix any loose section.
Clean surfaces
Wash, rinse, and dry. Go over the band with isopropyl alcohol several times. Touch up any chips inside it and let the paint cure.
One piece at a time
Front door first, then rear. Dry-fit, peel, set the top edge, press toward the far end. After the front and rear door pieces, check that the edges line up across the gap.
Finishing the Neon
Measure and keep all eight Neon pieces consistent.
Care
A day before the Neon is washed; mild soap only.
Door checks
Open and close each of the four doors once its piece is on. Look at the hinge side of the front doors and the gap between front and rear for any contact.
Ahead of ordering
Confirm it's the sedan, check that the molding on all four doors is intact and secure, and preview the 7" band with painter's tape. If anything doesn't look right, call 877-752-3811 with a photo of the side.
Supplies
Car soap, isopropyl alcohol, clean cloths, painter's tape and a marker, a tape measure, a plastic trim tool. Work in shade on a dry, mild day.
After the first day, wash with mild soap and a soft towel. An occasional non-abrasive metal polish keeps the band bright and even.
