The posts come first. Gather low-tack painter's tape, a pencil, rubbing alcohol, a bucket of car-soap water and several lint-free cloths. Remove wax and polish from all four posts. If the paint is chalky, crazed or flaking, repair it before anything else, since the tape bonds to that coat. Wash, rinse and dry, then wipe each post with rubbing alcohol, refolding the cloth until a clean face shows nothing, and feel along for dents.
Pick a dry, windless day and a shady spot. Unpack the four and compare them with their photos, telling us straight away if anything is damaged. Number each post on tape. With the liner on, hold the first cover in place, slide it until the reveal is even and outline it in painter's tape. Peel the liner, set the cover back inside the outline and press firmly along its length and both edges. Step back to check it before the next one.
