Six posts, properly cleaned. Take off all wax and polish, and repair any chalky, crazed or peeling paint, since the tape bonds to that layer. Wash with car soap, rinse, dry completely, then wipe each post with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloths until a clean fold comes up spotless. Mark any dents you come across; under a polished cover, even a shallow one is easy to see.
The kit. Car-soap water in a bucket, rubbing alcohol, a large stack of lint-free cloths, a roll of painter's tape and a pencil to label each cover with its post. A helper keeps six alignments consistent from front to back.
Fitting. Choose shade and dry, windless weather. Spread the six next to the gallery and tell us about any damage or missing piece. Label each. Liner on, hold a cover to its post and slide it until the margin is even, then tape its outline. Peel, place it in the outline and press firmly along its full length and both edges.
