Doing it right. Get the door completely clean: a soapy wash, a rinse, a full dry, then degreaser until the cloth shows nothing. Rehearse the placement before peeling anything, keeping the liner on and nudging the trim until its paint margin matches on every side. Mark with painter's tape. When you're satisfied, remove the liner and lay the trim down to the marks, then press it firmly from the center outward to the edges. A second press after a short wait is worthwhile. Finish. The polished 304 face is bright and reflective, and the 26 gauge sheet is very thin.
Afterward. Install on a mild, dry day, allow overnight for the tape to set, and keep up with a soft cloth and mild soap. Wipe off any fuel spills.
