What they do. The six covers are cosmetic pieces for the posts beside the side windows. Doors, glass and weatherseals work as they did before. Grade 304 stainless resists corrosion by its alloy, with no plated skin.
Attachment. 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape bonds each one directly to the post's current paint or trim. Nothing gets drilled, and the Ford, Lincoln or Mercury keeps all its trim. Read the Installation tab for the temperature range and cure time before starting.
Preparing six posts. Strip all wax and polish. Repair chalky, crazed or peeling paint, because the tape takes hold of that top layer. Wash with car soap, rinse, dry completely, and wipe each post with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloths until a clean fold shows no trace. Check for dents as you go; polished stainless makes them easy to spot.
What to gather. A bucket of car-soap water, rubbing alcohol, a tall pile of lint-free cloths, painter's tape and a pencil for writing post names on each label. Six covers are far easier to align with a helper watching from a few paces off.
Fitting. Work in shade on a dry, still day. Lay out the six beside the gallery and call us about any damage or missing piece. Label each cover for the post its photo shows. With its liner on, hold one to its post, slide it until the margin is even and tape its outline. Peel, set it in the outline, and press firmly along the full length and both edges. Compare it with its photo, then pick up the next.
If one lifts. Keep that cover's liner on and ring 877-752-3811 rather than forcing it. Once the tape has cured, wash the six with car soap and water and dry them with a soft towel.
