Prep for a wide strip
Wash and dry the lid, then wipe the entire area the strip will cover with a residue-free cleaner, not just the center. Any chip under that width will show, so repair it first.
Fitting
Dry-fit with the liner in place and compare against the photos. Equalize the distance from each end to the lid edges and run painter's tape along the top line.
