Lining up the opening
The key opening actually makes installation easier, because it gives you a fixed reference point. Clean the area with soap and water, then rubbing alcohol, and let it dry. Hold the bar in place with the liner on so the opening sits evenly around the lock, and check that both ends look level from behind the car. A couple of painter's tape marks at the ends help. Peel, set the opening over the lock first, then press outward toward each end along the full length. It mounts with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape and installs directly over the existing surface, so there's no drilling. Grade 304 is a common stainless for exterior trim, and the shine belongs to the steel rather than to any coating.
