Construction
The six pieces for the 960, S90 and V90 are cut in the USA from polished 26 gauge 304 stainless steel and set over the existing surface with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape. QAA says that tape will hold for a lifetime and won't mark the Volvo.
Getting the doors ready
- Run a hand along the molding on each door; repair anything loose or cracked.
- Wash the band below it with soapy water and rinse.
- Lift old wax with a wax-and-grease remover.
- Touch in chips or rust and let it cure.
- Wipe with isopropyl alcohol just before the first piece goes on.
Trial placement
Hold every piece with painter's tape so it meets the molding at the top and the door bottom at the base. Open each door fully. Then sight along the side from front and rear; the line should look even.
Bonding
Peel a few inches of liner, press firmly across the full height, and work along the piece. When it's down, press it all again.
Working back on the 960
Keep the Volvo 960 spacing and taper direction consistent.
Conditions
A mild, dry day out of direct sun, with the panels warm to the touch. Hold off washing for a day.
