If you're unsure where to begin, the gas door trim is the easiest piece in the group, a single flat part with no matching required. It gives you a feel for the tape and the finish before any multi-piece work, such as the ten-piece window package or the rocker kit.
No drilling is needed; GC57680 installs directly over the existing surface. QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle. The tape holds to the paint, so the paint needs to be sound. Look over the fuel door for faded, chalky or peeling clear coat, edge chips and bubbles, and repair them before installing. The door should close flush.
For the install, wash the door with soap and water, rinse, dry, and degrease the face. Then hold the trim in place on the closed door, liner on, until an even rim of paint shows around it. Mark the position with painter's tape. Peel the liner, line up with the tape, and press the trim firmly over its whole surface, then press again after a minute. The polished 304 finish is bright and reflective, and the 26 gauge sheet keeps the trim thin. Install on a mild, dry day, leave it dry overnight, and clean it afterward with mild soap and a soft cloth, wiping off fuel drips.
