Installation is tape only and goes directly over the existing surface, with no drilling. QAA states the tape will hold for a lifetime without causing any damage to the surface of the vehicle. Sound paint is the requirement, so fix edge chips, flaking or dull clear coat and bubbles on the door before you begin, and check that the door closes flush.
To install, wash the door, rinse, dry, and degrease it. Dry-fit the trim on the closed door with the liner on, adjusting until the visible paint around it is even, and mark the spot with painter's tape. The polished 304 surface is bright and mirror-like, and 26 gauge keeps it thin against the door. Work on a dry, mild day and leave the tape overnight before washing. Afterward, mild soap and a soft cloth keep it clean; wipe away any fuel drips.
