Since the tape holds to whatever surface it meets, start with a clean, sound one. Strip wax and polish, and repair any chalky, crazed or lifting paint. Wash the four posts with car soap, rinse, allow them to dry completely, and wipe each with rubbing alcohol on lint-free cloths, refolding until a fresh face picks up nothing. Check for dents or past repairs as you go, since polished steel shows them.
Gather car soap, a bucket, rubbing alcohol, lint-free cloths, painter's tape and a pencil. If a friend is free, ask them to stand back and tell you when each cover sits square.
Choose a shady spot and a still, dry day. Lay out the four with the gallery and call us if any is damaged or missing. With the liner still on, set a cover on the post its photo shows, move it until the edge gap is even and mark its outline in painter's tape. Peel, place it in the outline and press firmly from end to end and along both edges. Step back and compare before fitting the next.
