Preparing the Jetta
The adhesive needs paint that is clean, dry and sound. Wash each opening, dry it, and leave it until no water remains in the arch lip. Then examine the band the trim covers. Remove old adhesive with a plastic scraper, never metal, and deal with chipped edges. Wax-and-grease remover removes polish and wax; an isopropyl alcohol wipe follows just before fitting.
Applying each piece
Hold the piece in place with the liner on and two pieces of painter's tape. Look along the curve from the front of the car: the gasket should sit against the opening with no gaps. Start at one end. Free a short length of backing, press, and move on, until the whole piece is bonded. Fit the next wheel opening and compare the two.
