Eight D21 kits

No 1986 1/2 note
Most of the D21 rows say "fits 1986 1/2 as well." The two Long Bed rows, this one and TH87512, don't. If your truck is a 1986 1/2, ask us before ordering this kit.
A low strip
At 3", this is the shortest of the Lower Kit heights in the group, the same as TH87516. It covers only the bottom of the doors.
Material
The ten D21 long bed pieces are polished 26 gauge 304 stainless, USA-made, and go on over the existing paint with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape. Per QAA, the tape will hold for a lifetime and won't damage the Hardbody.
Older paint
Before you start, look for chips, rust bubbles or flaking paint along the door bottoms and fix them first. Old wax needs stripping with a wax-and-grease remover or isopropyl alcohol so the tape can bond.
Ten pieces
The record doesn't say how the ten divide between doors and bed side. Follow the photos and label each liner.
Dry fit
Tape each piece up with its bottom edge on the door bottom. Sight down the side and open the doors.
Bond
On the Hardbody, peel back the liner a short way, press, continue along the piece, and finish with firm hand pressure.
Matching
Hold the same positions on all ten Hardbody pieces.
Conditions
A mild, dry, shaded day suits the Hardbody install; skip washing for a day.
Choosing a height
The Lower Kit heights in the D21 group are 3", 4.75" and 6.625". Measure from the bottom of the door up to where you want the trim to stop, and compare that with 3". If you want more coverage, the Long Bed also has the TH87512 Full Kit, which runs from the molding down. For a taller Lower Kit, the 4.75" and 6.625" versions in the group are tagged King Cab, Short Bed or Regular Cab, not Long Bed, so call 877-752-3811 before choosing one of those for a Long Bed truck.
Keep the liners on until every piece is placed and you are happy with the line.
