Molding to door bottom

No 1986 1/2 mention
The Long Bed rows don't include the "fits 1986 1/2 as well" line that most D21 rows carry. Ask us if your truck is a 1986 1/2.
Steel and tape
QAA builds the D21 long bed kit from twelve 5.5" pieces of polished 26 gauge 304 stainless steel made in the USA, set between molding and door bottom with 3M automotive-grade acrylic foam tape. Per QAA, the tape will hold for a lifetime without damaging the Hardbody.
Getting old paint ready
Wash the area, then strip wax and old polish with a wax-and-grease remover. Check for rust, chips or flaking along the molding and the door bottoms; deal with those first. Finish with an isopropyl alcohol wipe.
Twelve pieces
Match each Hardbody piece to the photos and label the liners.
Dry fit between edges
Tape each piece up so its top meets the molding and its bottom meets the door edge. Open the doors.
Bond
Peel a little liner at a time and press firmly, working from front to back.
Matching
Keep the D21 spacing even on every piece.
Conditions
A mild, dry day in shade, with the panels warm. Wait a day before washing.
Full Kit or Lower Kit
If the molding on your truck is intact and you want the trim to fill the space below it, the Full Kit is the one to choose. If the molding is damaged, missing, or sits at a different height from door to door, a Full Kit has no reliable top edge to work to, and the TH87511 Lower Kit, which works from the door bottom up, avoids that edge. Send us a photo if you are not sure.
Keep the box until the job is done.
Fit one door first and check that the top edge sits evenly against the molding before you move on to the next.
