With eight covers, preparation is most of the job. The tape takes hold of the existing finish on each post, so walk round and check every one. Where the surface is chalky, cracked, lifting or waxed, fix it. Then wash, dry thoroughly, and wipe with rubbing alcohol on a clean lint-free cloth.
Lay the eight covers out on a towel in fitting order and check them against the photos. Call if any is bent or missing. Before peeling a single backing, hold every cover in position and outline it with painter's tape, labelling each outline in pencil. Then fit two at a time, pressing firmly along each cover's length and edges, and step back after every two to check that they match. A helper makes this easier with so many pieces.
